Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, an Institute of national importance, is looking for suitable
person for the following position.
COMPUTER ENGINEER : (1 post Unreserved)
Educational qualifications and experience
The candidate should have either of the following educational qualifications and experience.
1. B.Tech. or B.E. in Computer Science/Electrical Engg.,/Electronics Engg., or M.Sc. in
Physics/Mathematics/Computer Science, or MCA; and two years work experience.
2. M.Tech. in Computer Science/Electrical Engg./Electronics.
3. A relevant, equivalent, recognized, other specialized Bachelors/Masters degree (with
adequate experience).
In addition to the above, the candidate should have at least five years of handson
experience in
computer network and computer systems administration related activities.
Technical profile and skills
1. Should be extremely well versed in networking fundamentals.
2. Knowledge of switching and routing protocols like OSPF and BGP, network security, WAN,
wireless networks, and VPNs.
3. Experience in configuration and maintenance of various network devices such as firewalls,
network appliances, VPN gateways, and WiFi access points.
4. Experience in programming and scripting in Unix and Linux environments.
5. Exposure to open source network diagnostic tools like MRTG, Nagios, Nmap, Snort etc.
6. Good communication, documentation, and workflow management skills so as to supervise
small project teams and also to handle endusers.
7. Expected to contribute to all aspects of projects in network services.
Job profile
The selected candidate is expected to join a team responsible for performing system
administration tasks and planning for all aspects of IIT Bombay's IT infrastructure. Specifically,
the following will be part of the task list.
1. Installation, upgrade and troubleshooting of Unix and Linux servers, possibly using
multiple programming and scripting languages. Also, provide technical support and
maintenance documentation.
2. Develop administrative procedures and tools for routine systems administration activities.
3. Independently research and solve complex issues that arise in network services.
4. Effectively communicate policies, issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization.
Age Limit : Preferably below 40 years.
Pay Band : PB3
(Rs.1560039100)
+ Rs.5400 (Grade Pay) Total emoluments on the
minimum of Pay Band is Approx. Rs.43,560/excluding
HRA.
General Information :
1. Post is permanent.
2. Qualification and age may be relaxed for internal candidates.
3. No interim correspondence will be entertained.

7. Outstation candidates called for interview will be reimbursed air fare by economy class
(by Air India only) to the Institute and back by the shortest route on production of the
proof of onward journey and return journey (xerox copy of the tickets/receipts and the
Boarding Passes). Fare will not be paid on the spot, but will be reimbursed
subsequently.
8. The Institute reserves the right to fill or not to fill the post advertised.
9. Incomplete and late application received after the last date of receipt of
applications will not be entertained.
10.The application may be sent sufficiently in advance to avoid postal delays.
