S.N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, an autonomous centre for advanced
scientific research under the Department of Science and Technology, Government
of India invites application from Indian nationals for the post of SCIENTIST C
(COMPUTER SERVICES CELL) and SCIENTIST E (TECHNICAL CELL) with the
following criteria:
SCIENTIST C (COMPUTER SERVICES CELL) – 1 position
Pay in the pay band:
Rs. 15,600-39,100 (PB3) + 6600(Grade Pay), as per VIth Pay Commission
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
B.E/B.Tech or MCA/M.Tech in computer science, with first class or equivalent
Essential Experience:
Minimum 5 years for B.E/B.Tech/MCA and minimum 3 years for M.Tech in
scientific/educational/academic/research institutes.
Desirable Experience:
Experience in day to day management of computer centre relevant to which
appointment is sought.
Responsibilities:
Maintenance, proper utilization and upgradation of the computer facility and
associated services are the primary responsibilities. The incumbent will lead a group
of technical staff associated with the Computer facility.The incumbent will spend
approximately 70% of the time for the facility related work. In addition, in the
remaining time, the incumbent is required to collaborate with senior faculty/faculties
to initiate collaborative research/development activities using the computer centre.
Age:
Maximum 35 years on the date of publication of the advertisement.
Age may be relaxed for SC/ST/ OBC/ex-Servicemen as per Government of India
norms. The age limit does not apply for applicants who are working in the Centre in
regular position or on contract provided other criteria (qualification and experience),

SCIENTIST E (TECHNICAL CELL) – 1 position
Pay in the pay band:
37,400-67,000 (PB4) + 8700(Grade Pay) , as per VIth Pay Commission
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
PhD in Science or Applied Sciences/Engineering with adequate good publications in
designated areas.
Essential Experience:
Minimum 5 years after PhD. Experience in maintenance of sophisticated facilities
/managing programmes in relevant areas of which at least 2 years should be at the
level of Scientist –D with pay in the pay band of Rs. 15,600-39,100 (PB3) +
7600(Grade Pay), as per VIth Pay Commission or equivalent.
Desirable Experience:
Ability to do independent /collaborative research as demonstrated through
publications.
Experience in managing support technical staff and interfacing with equipment
vendors.
Responsibilities:
The incumbent will be in independent charge of management, proper utilization and
upgradation of a sophisticated facility/research programme and will lead a group of
technical staff associated with the facility. The incumbent will spend approximately
60% of the time for the facility/programme related work. In addition, in remaining
time, the person should initiate independent collaborative research using the
facilities/programmes managed. The incumbent is required to apply for extra mural
funding, and may take PhD student and participate in teaching.
Age:
Maximum 45 years on the date of publication of the advertisement.
Age may be relaxed for SC/ST/ OBC/Physically Handicapped as per Government of
India norms. The age limit does not apply for applicants who are working in the
Centre in regular position or on contract, provided other criteria (qualification and
experience), are satisfied.
General Instructions:
A. The Centre reserves the right to call suitable candidates in their opinion for
interview or relax qualifications or other requirements.
B. The Centre reserves the right to shortlist candidates based on merits and
qualifications. Satisfying minimum qualification will not ensure short-listing. The
selection will be based strictly on academic merits, qualifications and
experience in relevant area.
C. The age and experience can be relaxed by the Selection Committee for
exceptional candidates with brilliant academic record and outstanding research
profile.
D. The post carries pay and allowances as admissible to Central Government
employees. Total salary at the minimum of the grade as per present
emoluments will be approximately Rs. 58,995 per month for Scientist C and Rs.
1,02,570 per month for Scientist E.
